VisiTank is a state-of-the-art, remote fuel level monitoring system that can be installed in your home to ensure the level of comfort you have come to enjoy. Using a series of sensors, the VisiTank system can monitor a home’s temperature, heating system and hot water operation, fuel level, and even basement water level to protect it against the sudden freeze-ups caused by equipment failures or not having enough oil in a tank. These freeze-ups can lead to further damage to your home from burst water pipes and flooding.
The VisiTank® system consists of three primary elements:

• Data Collector/Modem for phone, broadband,
• Host Computer Software and Database Platform at SmithCo Oil Service
Wireless sensors measure specific environmental conditions for which they are designed. For example the Rocket ultrasonic sensor periodically measures distance from the top of a tank to the fuel level surface. This measurement is transmitted wirelessly to the Data Collector/Modem, which in turn delivers the measurement to the Host Computer platform located at SmithCo Oil Service headquarters. The communication is based on scheduled dial-outs or when the fuel level (or change in fuel level) indicates that a dial-out is required. Finally, the Host Computer converts the measurement to gallons and makes the information available to administrative personnel. In addition, alerts in the form of emails, text messages and other formats are used to inform designated persons of the occurrence of time-sensitive events, such as a low fuel level in your home. Temperature sensors function in a similar manner.
SmithCo Oil Service can install the unobtrusive control unit and its sensors in usually less than an hour. And, we’ll install it at no charge when done as part of our regular annual maintenance. All that’s needed is a regular phone line that the system uses to alert us to any fault detected by the monitoring system. In addition, the VisiTank control unit has its own battery so it can dial out even during power failures. It also integrates with modern digital services, such as DSL and broadband cable.
The VisiTank system operates around-the-clock to protect your home against severe or abnormal temperature drops, low fuel level in your tank, heating system shutdown, or basement flooding around a sensor. When a fault is detected, the control unit will send an alert to the host computer through the phone line without interfering with an on-going phone call. From there, an experienced service technician will be dispatched to your home to diagnose and remedy the situation. You don’t even need to be at home to have us ensure that your home is protected because it continually self-checks its sensors and its battery and alerts us when a problem arises. This makes VisiTank a great choice for second homes and summer residences that are not occupied during the winter months when the owners are away.
